Reinhard Jahn

The Department of Neurobiology is mainly interested in the molecular mechanisms of membrane fusion with a focus on exocytosis of synaptic vesicles. The group is dedicated to the functional study of protein complexes involved in membrane trafficking, and it will provide expertise both in the isolation and characterization of protein complexes under physiological conditions as well as studying their function, with particular respect to membrane docking and fusion. The group will also provide training in physico-chemical approaches for the study of protein-protein interaction (fluorescence resonance energy transfer, fluorescence anisotropy, multi-angle laser light scattering etc.) and in advanced video microscopy.

Dr. Reinhard Jahn:
Group leader, director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, professor (adjunct) of the University of Göttingen, neurobiologist and biochemist, over 20 years experience with the molecular basis of neurotransmitter release, expert in synaptic vesicles, exocytosis, membrane fusion, and the study of protein-protein interactions, and regulated protein complexes
